“Every woman deserves to be surrounded by fabulous girlfriends, giving and receiving support, with opportunities to grow in confidence, skills and knowledge. When I started Women Can International Inc in 2007, my heart was to continue all of the fabulous connections I had created through Pearls Women’s Magazine. I’d co-edited the magazine and met so many fabulous women, that I was very reluctant to let those connections go. There were also other wonderful women that I had met through the years and wanted to maintain a relationship with. The challenge for me as a mother of four children running my own business was how do I find the time to service all of these relationships?”The concept of The Girlfriend Coffee Club came to me one day and I invited a few girlfriends from all the different worlds of my life – work friends, church friends, friends of friends, online friends etc – over for a meal. It was such a wonderful evening that it gave me the confidence to use that as a model for building The Girlfriend Coffee Club, and also in essence, the foundational values for the programs at Women Can.
“Then I received what I call a ‘divine download’ of five programs. Each program was implemented in 2008, except for the retreat program, and it was a joy to see. I loved the synergy between women, many of whom were meeting for the very first time. I felt very much like a double adaptor, plugging women in and seeing them powered up.
“So coming into our fourth year of operation I am very excited to see the development. 2009 we went underground, like we were in a winter season, making sure our roots and foundations would be sturdy. In 2010, we popped up to see what was happening and to show off our creativity, then went underground again to further strengthen the roots. Now it is time for our spring season, when we can flourish and bring forth new life. I can’t wait to see what this year holds for women.
“I am very thrilled to be able to be a part of this organisation which has literally changed my life. Never before have I felt so full – with wonderful women all around me who are constantly pushing me forward and cheering me on.
“We all have a wonderful opportunity in front of us to connect to one another. WCI has never been about ownership, nor will it ever be. I’ve always said to my team, you are free to walk in and out, without guilt, because that’s the kind of grace I believe we as busy women need.
“I encourage you to plug into this growing network. Come along to our events and enjoy getting to meet new women. It was the best decision I ever made and I hope that it will be a really positive connection for you too.”
