Sex and the Nitty Gritty
The members of Women Can International Inc are formally invited to attend the High Tea at the Hilton Hotel in celebration of International Gynae Awareness Day.
There are going to be some very interesting speakers including Lord Mayor Lisa Scaffidi, Professor Jenny McCloskey, and ex-brothel madam Mary-Anne Kenworthy.
There are also going to be some live entertainment with a Burlesque and Cabaret Dance Troupe.
There will also be a fashion parade.
It promises to be a wild afternoon of fun for the ladies. Men are also welcome to attend. I’d love for us to have a table of WCI girls there to celebrate with Kath.
For those that don’t know, Kath Mazzella OAM is one of our members and is a Gynae and Sexual Awareness campaigner, having survived Vulva cancer herself. She has a message that is valid for EVERY woman and I’d love for us to show her our support by attending.
The event is at the Hilton Hotel, so will be a great opportunity to dust off your fancy gear and do a little hob knobbing.
I know there was some talk about Maryanne Kenworthy speaking about how to have an orgasm, but I’m not sure if that topic is going to make it past the gatekeepers, but it will be fun to find out.
If you’d like to come with me, please spread the word and let me know ASAP so I can book a table or two?
Woodvale Girls can Learn to Shine Even Brighter – Community News Group
Eliza-Jane Barnett presents Woodvale Senior High School chaplain Carol Stokes with the cheque for $500.
GIRLS at Woodvale Senior High School are profiting from a $500 donation from Women Can International.
The money will go towards the school’s Shine Girls program, which helps to raise teenage girls’ confidence through personal development, deportment and behavioural training.
WCI founder and chairwoman Hayley Solich said the idea to donate to Shine came from a member whose daughter attended Woodvale and thought it was a valuable program for young women.
“(She) said it was a really, really good program but some of its programs were in need of an upgrade,” Mrs Solich said.
The money was raised through an auction held on International Women’s Day by the WCI where girls as young as seven were invited despite the WCI normally being for women 18 years and older.
Mrs Solich said the WCI aims to help young women “finally take the next step in their journey”.
Launch of The Red Tent Woman Network in Perth
As those who know me well will know, I am very supportive of other women’s groups and was recently approached by Ludwina Dautovic from The Red Tent Woman to help her launch her groups in Western Australia.
Given that I am the Chairperson of a fabulous women’s network, I didn’t think it was appropriate for me to host one of the events and join her leadership team, but I do want to support her in her desire to help grow strong business women.
So in this blog post I am giving you all the details if you’re interested in going to either of the events, one in Roleystone and one in Kardinya.
On Friday night 18th June or Saturday afternoon 19th June come and join us for our first ever Red Tent Events in Perth!
(Limited places, so book now!)

Ludwina says…
I am so excited to be launching our ‘new look’ Red Tent Events in Perth on Friday 18th June and Saturday 19th June.
We have been working very hard at getting the new model underway and as a result we now have 10 events running in various states around Australia. In fact, it’s our goal to have 100 nationwide withing 12 months.
You may be wondering what the difference is. Well, many women around Australia have been waiting for The Red Tent to come to their city but it was hard to do with the way we were previously running the events. You see, when hosting events in resturants there is a lot of work that goes into it, a lot of marketing and the cost is high. So we realised we had to do something different.
I went on a roadtrip and had a lot of time to think. My thinking led me to come up with a model that allows growth and expansion by growing a team of leaders who also see the red tent vision. I also realised that the home is where the heart is so why not host them in their homes instead of the resturants.
I know it’s radical and no one in the networking industry is doing it, but if you know me well, I like to do things differently and I like to be a pioneer. Well, it turns out that my ideas reflected the thoughts of many and as a result these events are growing like wildfire. So much in fact, I’m having to slow them down to keep up.
Ciao,
Ludwina xxx
PS – Our events are usually fully booked a week prior so if you plan on attending book now! One more thing… I’m coming to Perth from chilly Melbourne so we can have a chance to meet!
How are they run?
They are run like a normal networking event except they are in the comfort of someones home. We will have the usual components; time to get to know each other, time to learn and grow and time to connect and share.
Because the events are no longer held in the resturants, the cost is minimal, therefore we decided that there would be no cost to attend the event; instead, we ask you to contribute. At each event you will be asked to bring some wine, some food and that’s it. Nice huh? Once you have been to your first event, we will ask you to become a part of our community in an official way. But we’ll tell you more about that on the night.

Real Women… Real Business… Real Connection…
Media release: Choices, A Workshop for Women
“Making choices in life can often be difficult, causing us considerable stress,” says Founder and Chairperson of Women Can International Inc, Hayley Solich.
“Before I separated from my partner in 2007, I felt quite powerless. But after a horror year living in a one-bedroom granny flat with my husband and four children, whilst caring for my incapacitated in-laws, I learned that despite our circumstances we always have a choice,” continues Hayley
It was when her girlfriends supported Hayley, and helped her to gain the courage to make the break from her husband, that she suddenly experienced ‘the liberating power of choice’.
It was during this time of separation that Hayley founded Women Can International Inc (WCI), a positive Perth-based women’s association that seeks to support women to find and take the next step in their journey, encouraging them to make positive choices.
Two years on, Hayley is back with her husband and enjoying a much more respectful and nurturing relationship and sees that time of separation as a gift to her marriage.
Hayley and the team at Women Can want to pass on to others what they have learned through this and other life experiences.
Choices: The Power of Possibility Workshop for Women is being held on Saturday, 5 June 2010 at a private luxury holiday home in Quinns Rocks from 10:00am-2:00pm. The women of Perth are invited to participate in what is going to be ‘an exceptional workshop full of light bulb moments’.
The goal of the workshop is to place in the hands of women, effective decision-making tools so they can make positive choices in their lives.
The workshop will cover: Sowing and Reaping – How what you do today will be instrumental in the opportunities you harvest in the future; Cultivating the Garden of Opportunity – What are you planting in the garden of your life and how are you nurturing it; To Plant or Not to Plant – Getting solutions to life’s big questions; The Communal Garden – Co-creating solutions to community situations; and Fences, Gates & Borders – Creating, recognising, and responding to personal boundaries.
All women who would like the opportunity to learn how to use decision making tools effectively, gain an awareness of how their choices may be affecting their opportunities and also develop their community partnership skills are invited to participate in this practical and interactive workshop.
Highly subsidised by sponsors The Creaticians, this four-hour workshop includes a light lunch, tea and coffee.
To register for this event contact Hayley Solich on 08 9375 2007 or 0404 732 578 or visit www.womencaninternational.com. Bookings are essen

Join our Fun Community Photo Comp & win a great prize!
Dawn Russell, a lady that came to our last Girlfriend Club meeting was so bummed that she couldn’t come to our event that she decided she would lend her support in the only way she could…by wearing her petticoat on the slopes of Aspen.
She caused quite a stir there and helped to promote International Women’s Day.
I was so elated to recieve her photos that I have decided to invite women from around the world to send us their pics in their petticoats, pearls and tiaras and we’ll create a community photo wall in here and then maybe even make it into a YouTube.com video to share with the world.
Invite your girlfriends to send us a pic or short video. You can upload them here by using the email form below. A special prize for the most creative photo or video (Prize winner to be announced 31 March 2010).
Looking forward to sharing this wonderful day with so many fabulous women!

Very exciting news…
As many of you may be aware, Jayne Barnett has had to go to Tasmania to be with her ailing father. This meant our Fashion Parade was in jeopardy of not happening which would have been a disaster.
I am very excited to announce that Internationally acclaimed local designer of couture hand painted 100% silk Kaftans, Linda Ellis from Almond-Tree will be showing her collection at our event. We are very grateful that Linda is willing to travel up from Busselton to be at the event and show her gorgeous courture garments.
Special thanks to the Kelly girls for being willing to model for us. You girls are gorgeous so I’m sure it will be a wonderful parade.
If you haven’t seen Linda’s fabulous garments then you are in for a treat. Here is a sample taken at a recent event:
These silk Kaftans are so beautiful to see on…they are vibrant colours, gorgeous designs, free flowing feminine garments. I can’t wait to see Linda’s range.
Please visit the Almond-Tree site to see more information. There is a whole gallery of photos taken from the runways in New York and Paris, where Linda’s work has been featured.
She has been told she is in the top five new designers in the world! Quite an accomplishment for a Perth girl.

Moulon Rouge eat your heart out!
When Jayne suggested to me that she’d be willing to help people get their costumes together for this event, I was grateful for her enthusiasm but really didn’t know what she had in mind. Then I turned up with my friend, Amanda Reed, for our first discussion about what Elli-J Creations could do to get us two Belles ready for our English Garden Tea Party – Princesses in Petticoats & Pearls event – and I have to say I was very pleasantly surprised by how the morning turned out.
First of all, we met at Jayne’s home in her gorgeous new studio/workshop, which is decked out with sewing machines and all the paraphenalia that goes with sewing. The bright boxes and bins are chocka block full of clothing to be remodelled or swaths of fabric ready to be sewn. There are little drawers full of boxes of beads and sequins and ribbons. The whole workshop is completely inspirational for anyone with an ounce of creativity and Jayne is just so grounded and eager to help you create something that will show you off to advantage. So when Amanda and I arrived, it was to be greeted by a very excited Jayne, eager to serve us and to see what little treasures we had brought, as Jayne has a policy of bring something to the table to exchange in the way of used garments.
Amanda brought Jayne an old ball gown from the 80′s. It was cream in colour, had an intricate bodice with bead work, huge mutton sleeves, laced up at the back and a big flouncy skirt. It was so dated that we all laughed at it, remembering how ridiculous we all looked back then and swapping balls and wedding gown stories.
Now have to say, this is where Jayne’s brilliance as a designer and clothing remodeller really impressed me. Immediately she saw within that mutton sleeved garment something quite stunning. With Amanda’s permission she cut off the sleeves, creating a gorgeous sleeveless vest. She then cut off the skirt, leaving a short ”frill” (shaped like an ice skater’s costume) and edged it so it looked like it was meant to be part of the top. This looked very flattering on Amanda and was designed to conseal any problem areas in the hips and thighs. She also fitted the bodice to Amanda’s shape, adjusting the shape of the garment and adding boning to support the bust area.
Once the skirt was off, we looked at the petticoats underneath. We saw that there really was enough fabric there to make a couple of petticoats, so Jayne cut one for Amanda and one for me. At one stage, both Amanda and I were standing in the skirt! It was hilarious. Jayne went on to create an overskirt out of the top layer of fabric, and used the petticoats to created a Moulon Rouge effect, complete with the notion of adding a bustle to the back of the dress to give it a real oomph.
The overall affect was absolutely brilliant and if Amanda doesn’t win a prize on the day, then there is seriously something wrong!
Our next step will be to convert the left over petticoat into the bottom of my dress, adding a caramel silk bodice and then creating a small cropped jacket out of some antique lace fabric I was given a few years ago by a mature lady that I interviewed for Pearls Women’s Magazine. I was in her sewing studio and I admired the fabric, which was a 1950′s embroidered lace and was just stunning. She gave it to me and I’ve always wanted to be able to do something special with it. So hopefully, out of one garment, will come two stunning dresses designed by Elli-J Creations.
Photos coming soon…so check back in a day or two.
What are you going to wear to this event?
Some suggestions:
- Add some pearls to an old petticoat (you can pick one up from the opp shop). You can get pearls with holes in them so you can stitch them on.
- Wear something comfortable (a dress would be good) and add a tiara. You can pick up a tiara from Red Dot for $2.00 or thereabouts.
- Add a string of pearls to your outfit.
- Hire a princess costume or make one.
Just so long as you link to the theme Princesses, Petticoats & Pearls, you won’t feel out of place. I encourage you to enter into the joy of the day, after all, it’s not every day you have the chance to dress up like a princess.
If you haven’t book yet, places are filling up fast, so please book now. Links to booking pages on the home page.
