I remember when I first started Women Can International Inc. I was a mother of four, recently separated, starting life again. I had moved from Morley to Kinross, so was in a totally new area, knowing no-one from that area and really needing some support.
Fortunately, the concept for Women Can International Inc had been rattling around in my brain for the months leading up to my separation, so when I did start life on my own, I actioned those thoughts immediately. I called up some girlfriends to see if they would support me to get it started and they all said, “Yes!”
Then we started with a large event at Kings Park, a multicultural breakfast in celebration of International Women’s Day. It was a huge success and that was how we launched the association.
Closely on the tail of that event, I sent out a press release and it got picked up by the local Community Newspaper Group who ran a front page story, with a picture of myself and my four children.
Over the next month, I received 55 phone calls. In fact, I was just cleaning out some of the stuff in my house just yesterday and I stumbled across my notebook that still has all the names and numbers of the people who called me.
What I learned from running the Association over the coming years was the value of connecting women together and forming friendships and working partnerships.
I would host an event, a woman would walk through my front door and I would immediately connect them with someone who shared a common interest, then sit back and watch the magic. It was electrifying. The joy, the love, the acceptance and the confidence that I saw developing in the women I worked with was truly amazing and made my heart full of joy.
It is from this basis of experience that we are launching our Know Grow Glow Mentoring Program, a five-week program, specifically designed to help women to self-reflect through a positive lens, to extend their thinking and to create supportive networks with other women.
This program is open to all women and as a payment, we are asking for membership of the Association. Why? Because we want to invest in the women that come to our programs, to connect them in and then when they are strong, they can invest in other women. We want to create a truly dynamic network of women.
If you are a woman who is looking for:
- Self-reflection through a positive lens
- New ideas
- Personal growth and to challenge yourself
- Friendships with other women
- Mentoring and support
…then this may be the program for you.
Our first session will be hosted by Toni Maher, Vice Chairperson at her home in Swan View. Address details are available upon registration.
Please consider joining us. More about the program can be found here. Registrations close Sunday 6 August 2017.
Our commitment to you is that we will create a safe environment for you to be able to be yourself and share your truth. Hope to see you there. Please consider sharing this with your girlfriends who may be keen to participate.
